АВТОМАТИЧЕСКИЕ ФОРМИРОВАТЕЛИ ГОФРОЛОТКОВ

Машины компании DMS служат для автоматического формирования гофролотков из плоских картонных заготовок с помощью системы складывания, а также системы нанесения горячего клея.
Заготовки по одной подаются из магазина подачи присосками, работа присосок синхронизирована с главной передающей цепью. Далее посредством толкателей заготовки перемещаются к узлу формирования. В процессе горизонтального перемещения заготовок, происходит нанесение клея горячего плавления в требуемых местах. Затем в узле формирования заготовка приобретает форму лотка при помощи головы формирователя, происходит загиб верхних клапанов при помощи механических устройств. Производительность машины – до 2400 лотков в час.

Fruit stays fresher in corrugated trays

Corrugated trays keep fruit fresher and safer than reusable plastic crates (RPCs) and can significantly reduce contamination from pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms, according to scientific research.
The research by the highly-respected University of Bologna found that corrugated trays ensured better quality packed fruits and a longer shelf-life, reducing fruit microbial cross contamination. This decreases the risk of foodborne illnesses and increases fruit shelf life, contributing to the fruit's freshness, scent, appearance and taste.
Microbiological contamination of fruit and vegetables is a major concern for retailers. Contamination can have two characteristic effects. In case of pathogen bacteria, food safety is at risk. In the case of spoilage bacteria, it will have an impact on shelf life. In both cases, the role of packaging can be critical.

The research was led by Professor Rosalba Lanciotti at the University of Bologna's Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences. It looked at the exchange of microbes between produce and packaging and vice versa. The study was particularly interested in how differences in packaging materials can influence the cross contamination.
The results revealed statistically significant differences in the microbiological quality between produce packed in (RPCs) and corrugated trays.
The researchers packed peaches in deliberately contaminated packaging, both corrugated trays and RPCs, with the same number of Escherichia coli, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Pseudomonas spp. and they then measured the transfer of the microorganisms to packaged fruit. The tests showed that the fruit reached contamination levels generally associated to fruit spoilage 48 to 72 hours earlier in plastic crates than in corrugated trays.
All peaches were washed with tap water, then sterilised with a sodium solution, rinsed with sterilised water and then air dried before entering the tests. Contributing factors such as the temperature during storage, the length of time before sale, and the superficial damage on each peach were also taken into consideration. The results of the tests showed that all of them influenced the microbial transfer from packaging material to fruit, but the transferring of the spoilage microorganisms considered was always lower for corrugated trays.
The tests also showed that in some conditions during the trials (i.e. high storage temperature) up to 95% of the peaches packed in RPCs were contaminated with E. coli after 48 hours when packaged in deliberately contaminated plastic crates. By contrast, the E. coli contamination level never exceeded 25% of the peaches packed in corrugated contaminated with the same levels of microorganisms.
The tests enabled Professor Lanciotti and her team  to conclude that peaches packed in corrugated reach consumers in a safer and fresher state than those in plastic crates.
Jan Gramsma, FEFCO's Market and Environment Director, said the tests were just one of the many confirmations that corrugated is cleaner and safer. "When it comes to preventing microbiological contamination, the science is in no doubt: corrugated board is far superior to RPC," he said. "Both the European Food Safety Agency and the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention say fresh produce can be a source of contamination leading to foodborne Illnesses. Until now, we did not have undeniable proof that packaging was a factor. Our message to retailers is simple and clear: corrugated keeps produce fresh and safe."
The research comes as other concerns have been raised recently over the hygiene of RPCs. Last November, the Department of Food Science at the University of Arkansas showed that typical industry cleaning procedures failed to sanitise RPCs. The research team led by Dr Steven Ricke found Salmonella cells on the crates even after cleaning. He noted that bacteria hide in the cracks and crevices of the crate's surface, making it harder for industrial sanitisers to reach them. Dr Ricke said industry claims that crates are "99.5%" clean after sanitisation sound impressive, but that the missing 0.5% could hold millions of cells.

For example, retailers want to sell their products for low prices to the consumer market. To do so, retailers force food suppliers to deliver their products in trays that meet predefined standards. Why? Standardised tray types greatly improve logistics efficiency and drive significant cost reduction because trucks are filled to maximum capacity. If food suppliers provide different tray types, retailers can’t stack trays optimally, which results in higher costs.

The pros of automatic tray forming


1. Better tray quality

Cardboard trays formed with tray forming machines are stronger than hand folded trays because they are glued with hotmelt. This process makes the trays better stackable. They can be stacked in trucks without collapsing, which could happen to hand folded trays if they are stacked too high.

2.Reduced material costs

Tray forming machine (with a gluing process) often reduces the investment in cardboard because less m² cardboard is required to form the same tray, compared to a hand forming process. However, in some situations more m² is required. This is the case with the production of punnets, for example.

When hand folding is used to form boxes, one has workers in place to do the manual labour. This capacity comes with salary costs and the need for working space. One or more tray forming machines can be controlled by a single operator. This results in fewer employees on
the payroll and reduced labour costs.

4. Stability

Manual labour doesn’t only result in higher (labour) costs, the frequency of errors increases too: humans aren’t perfect. Neither are machines, but the efficiency of a production process does increase significantly with automation. With automatic tray forming, under 0,5% of cardboard wastage can be achieved.

5. Saved space

Another thing a hand folding process requires is working space. Workers need folding tables for forming. The majority of that space becomes available when all you have in place is a tray forming machine. This saved space gives you the opportunity to store more planos.

6. Flexibility

As a cardboard packaging supplier, you do not exclusively work with food suppliers and retailers; you also serve other customers. Therefore, it is crucial to be flexible in production. Your organisation needs to be able to form different tray types and sizes quickly. Good tray forming machines can meet this need because they have short changeover times.

7. Scalability

You or your customers do not constantly produce the same volume: peaks in the production process arise from time to time. Automation helps suppliers cope with high volume deliveries since a machine is always on. With a machine, you only need one or two extra operators to switch shifts. With hand folding, you would have to replace an entire team or workers.

The cons of automatic tray forming


Tray forming machines do not solely come with advantages. There are two things that aren’t in favor of automatic tray forming, compared to hand folding.

1. Investment

Tray forming machines require an investment. But when a certain volume is reached — about 200.000–250.000 trays per year — the investment becomes justifiable. Better yet: in most cases, it becomes profitable. Suppliers can predict their annual volume by looking at their production capacity and the needs of their customers.

2. Technical knowledge

Tray forming machines require proper setup and maintenance, especially during downtime. Technical knowledge is required to do periodical maintenance checks, replace parts, or fix machinery issues. You probably don’t have this knowledge within your organisation, so you need an expert to help you out.

In short, the alternative to hand folding — automatic tray forming — has more pros than cons. This technique improves the quality of trays, significantly reduces costs, and provides more flexibility.

Важно также учитывать качество и степень созревания перевозимой продукции. Также как и используемая упаковка из гофрокартона, продукция не должна иметь механических и скрытых повреждений. Овощи и фрукты должны быть оптимальной степени зрелости, иметь товарный вид и размер в соответствии с ГОСТом. Перезревшая и вялая продукция к перевозке по правилам не допускается. Грузоперевозки фруктов и овощей в гофротаре и гофроупаковке возможны только в том случае, если совершенно точно известно, что в конце пути груз всё ещё будет в хорошем состоянии. Например, мандарины или яблоки могут иметь достаточно короткий срок хранения и его нужно сопоставлять с длительностью автоперевозки, а также учитывать прочность используемой для их упаковки фруктовой гофротары
Рекомендуется составить инструкцию по перевозке продуктов питания и необходимым процедурам, как и для любого скоропортящегося груза. Требуется убедиться, что грузоотправитель знает максимальное время автоперевозки овощей и фруктов в картонной упаковке, им подготовлены необходимые мероприятия выгрузке данных продуктов питания. 
При погрузке коробок в кузов следует следить за тем, чтобы их структура оставалась целостной, овощные картонные коробки не мялись, на них не было вертикальных или горизонтальных складов. Также важно следить, чтобы верхние коробки с овощами или фруктами не помяли нижние на поддоне. 

Теперь давайте рассмотрим, как картонные коробки с упакованным грузом из овощей и фруктов разместить в транспорте. Чтобы циркуляция воздуха и уровень температуры были в норме, коробки с грузом следует размещать обязательно на поддонах, чтобы температура пола кузова не влияла на груз, а также старайтесь оставлять хотя бы небольшой зазор между коробками и стенками кузова автомобиля. И, конечно же, между каждой паллетой с грузом должен быть небольшой промежуток относительно соседних поддонов.
